What is in our library

Welcome to our library - Whare Pukapuka

(Our Library stocks approximately 9,600 books)

This particular time we are celebrating Maori Language week
hence these lovely posters on our door.

We have a very brief history of what has happened to the library since
 the Canterbury Earthquake.

In our lovely Reading Nook we have a wall dedicated to Students and Staff
affiliated with other countries.

We also display a few Staff photos for everyone to look and perhaps
giggle over.

We proudly display our School Values

Students love to see pictures of Staff reading to classes in the library.

We have a Season Tree which students decorate each Season.

Our display table which invites Students to participate and create.
This display is about the Maori Myth, Battle of the Mountains and the Students
have been busy making paper mountains.

Here is our Author/Topic display area. Because this is Maori Language week we are
currently displaying books written in Te Reo as well as Te reo dictionaries etc.

Our lovely Reading Nook

Our amazing outdoor library deck

Another display area is the library curtains.
Last Term it was full of stars for Matariki that the Students had made.
Now it is Spring the Students have made beautiful daffodils.

A sign post in case anyone gets lost.

Don't know what to read? on the issues desk are covers of Senior Books that
Anne has read and recommends.

Our school house colours and names.

And this is a one aspect of our library.

New in the library

Managed to locate the perfect size table for the library (not too big and not too small as Goldilocks would say) and it has proved to be very popular.

Matariki 2018

Gearing up for Matariki in the Library

Do you know the nine stars of Matariki?
http://kcc.org.nz/te-iwa-o-matariki-the-nine-stars-of-matariki-promotion/

Students came to the library and made stars for Matariki. We hung them on the library curtains and we think they look pretty cool.

We have a Matariki book display set up in the library.

Our Library journey with Hydstore

The library was given a new permanent home in January 2018 after several years of moving to and from temporary premises (spare classrooms and then housed in the old Dental Clinic which is now the new PTA room)  post Library fire.

The school had a partial rebuild post earthquake and the old but refurbished Room 1 was allocated for the Library

The lovely guys from Hydstore arrived with the shelving, the space was full of boxed books and they did an amazing job working around them.

The Junior fiction shelving being installed

So many brackets to fix on the walls. This was to be our non fiction area.

Almost 10,000 boxed books waiting to be shelved.

First the brackets
 Then the shelves

Looking amazing the guys worked so fast

 Loving the blue wall

And we were soon able to shelve the books

Our New Library

What an exciting time it has been

The library has a new place in the school right beside the office and fairly central to all hubs. It is a great place to hangout at lunchtime and morning break.

There is an amazing outdoor area with bean bags

Awesome Caretaker

Tony has been busy clearing the entrance around the library and creating a great vista through which I can view the rebuild.

Lunchtime in the library today.

Great to see our students enjoying the cosy library this term
